Module coordinators can guide their students through their reading lists by indicating the relative 'importances' of the items they are recommending. Most important is Key, next is Recommended, least is Background.
Purchases for the library are made in accordance with our Collection Development and Management Policy. This indicates the ratios for purchasing books as follows:
Key texts - the library commits to ordering at least one copy of a core textbook for every ten students per module, with a minimum of three key texts purchased to ensure that smaller cohorts have appropriate access to titles considered key texts
Recommended texts - where readily available, we commit to purchasing one copy of each recommended item for every 25 students per module. When books are out of print or unavailable, the Liaison Librarian will liaise with the relevant academic.
Background texts - the library will buy a single copy, if readily available.
If importance options are changed, student numbers increase or new items are added, the module coordinator should send the list for Review so the library can ensure adequate copies are in stock.
